China ends tariffs on African products- Will America do the same?

February 16, 2026 1:27am CST
It appears African countries will be the bride of world super powers as China decides to end tariffs on most goods from Africa. President Trump had earlier increase tariffs on African exports which has had serious negative impact on jobs and productivity. Do you think China will replace America as world super power soon?

as you know, China has been trading with Africa for many decades .. it is the world super power. China is much more relible than the US, does not interfere in politics. China has realised, since the 90s that it has quietly replaced America. You will rarely see an American car. Our electric products from fridge to microwave to washing machine all come from China. Our clothes come from China. We don't import much from the US

@ogbenishyna44 it is and has been for many years, but not having a sick ego, not being a narcissist, China keeps its power quiet.

We should be helping Africa by having no tariffs to them.

America can not be trusted, that has been proven. Those African nations which rely on the US are suffering. Those nations which have links with China scarcely notice America

Most of the supplies in the African market come from Asia. Of it being a super power! that will be a long walk

Exactly... It has been this way from the '90s. I recall being on IRC, speaking to a chap from Kenya, who told me how China invaded... so I opened my eyes...started to look at the 'MADE IN..' label. .

China is not as friendly as America when it comes to international relations. I believe America will always win Africa.

You are wrong. America is abusive... and tries to invade. It underthrew my gov. in 1980. Jerry Rawlings of Ghana learned how it was done, so when America tried in his country, he made sure they failed. He spoke of it when he visited Jamaica.

Trump will not reduce tarrifs But he may decide he wants to take Africa over. China is already the world's Super Power ahead of America

I think China already is the dominant country in the world now. It's got an evil, despotic government, but it's run by intelligent people who understand soft power and playing the long game. They've been increasing their influence overseas through trade for decades, and consistently investing in infrastructure that will benefit them in the future. Compare and contrast with the current American government, which has thrown away its soft power over the last year, and who only seem to deal in tariffs, threats and actual violence now. Assuming the Chinese political system remains stable, and they pursue a consistent foreign policy, I don't see any way to avoid them being one of the most powerful countries of the 21st Century. But they won't have a monopoly on powe and influence.

I think, US will still be top super power in the world. China will be close behind. I'm just wondering what will China demand from these African nations in return to zero tariff?
