Cherophobia is a fear or an irrational aversion to being happy. It's a form of anxiety disorder that includes symptoms like having anxiety about going to something fun like a party or gathering, rejecting opportunities to make positive life changes and refusal to participate in fun activities. Or maybe it's just that old expression about misery loving company and some people enjoy being miserable. Ever met somebody who you think might have cherophobia?

Yes, but he has always had intense anxiety which makes it impossible for him to do those things. I know him well; and he does not enjoy being miserable.
