People once took tomato pills as medicine An Ohio doctor named John Cook Bennett told people in the 1800's that tomatoes could help with digestion, jaundice, cholera, diarrhea, and so forth. He went into business with a drug manufacturer to sell "tomato pill" "medicine" to people. He sold hundreds of thousands of bottles until people figured out they could just eat the tomatoes themselves.

It's easy to dupe people, especially back in those days.

I'm always fascinated by old time medicine. The stuff they put in potions and pills makes me cringe. Thank you for the info on tomato pills. I had never heard about them.

Turning it into a pill probably killed it's natural nutrients.

This is the first time I heard of this pill. I have read that to drink the warm water with tomato in it is good for reducing uric acid.
