My Favorite Songs with Boys Names in the Title

Musicians have frequently used Girls names as song titles usually in reference to love and relationships. But I was also surprised to find out Boys names are used in titles quite often as well. Sometimes names are also used to create a story about a fictional character, or in the case of The Moody Blues song "Timothy Leary," to recognize a famous historical person. Anyway, here is a "trifecta" of popular songs I would give a "thumbs up." I'm sure there are many others I could add... 1. HEY JUDE- these 4 "Mop-Topped" boys from Liverpool, also known as The Beatles, had a #1 hit with this song in 1968. Written by Paul McCartney to comfort John's song Julien over the divorce of his parents, this was the Beatles longest single, running 7:11, and at the time was the longest tune ever released as a single. There were some great lyrics along with some great music in that song, and even with all the Na-na-na-na, na's, I still liked this track. Fun fact: Hey Jude ushered in a craze where artists would record really long songs, think "American Pie" and "Layla," and people would not tune out if they liked it. 2. ME & BOBBY MCGEE- this tune was written by Kris Kristofferson and popularized by Janis Joplin whose version reached #1 in 1971. Janis's version of "Me and Bobby McGee" was released after she died of a heroin overdose. Depending on who sings the song, a male or female artist, the name Bobby could be about a man or woman. Perfect for the confused gender ideology crowd today. This was Joplin's only top ten hit, and in this rendition, a great boy-titled tune. 3. I'M HENRY THE VIII, I AM- why not include a novelty-song I enjoyed listening to on the radio as one of my favorite boy-titled tunes. Released and hitting the #1 spot in 1965, Herman's Hermits struck gold singing about this historical character but twisting things so instead of a much-married King, it was a widow. A great sing a-long tune for a summer road trip drive, a fond memory which made me include it as a favorite. Honorable Mentions- “Jumpin' Jack Flash” —The Rolling Stones and “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” —Jim Croce TRIVIA CHALLENGE- NAME THAT MYSTERY TUNE! ***For those who like to test their music knowledge. Words with quote marks provide valuable hints! This boy-titled tune was recorded by a "famous Do-Wop singer" and has some "famous people" in the title. Two of them are "former Presidents (both assassinated)," the other a famous "Civil Rights activist" (also assassinated). A song which fits right in with the "President's Day holiday" and "Black History Month." You might remember this singer from his days with the "Belmonts" and his hits "I Wonder Why" and "Teenager in Love." When this artist went solo his chart success continued with "The Wanderer" and "Runaround Sue." 1.*DO YOU KNOW THE NAME OF THIS SONG AND ARTIST? 2.*CAN YOU REMEMBER A NAME OF A BOY-TITLED SONG? @dgobucks226 I had never heard of the answer. And yes, he was on General Hospital. I saw him when he made a return back in the 2000s. I used to watch it.

@AmbiePam Ha, ha, how about that! Dion was a fixture on the music scene in the late 50's to early 60's when rock n' roll was just gaining popularity.

I can't remember the name of the song; but I know it's Dion that sang it. I met him back in the 60s and have a picture with him. He was starring in a play at Cain Park Theater; and I was taking lessons there during the summer.

Yes, The Wanderer was Dion, lol. Trivia Answer- Abraham, Martin & John- Dion Very cool! Did not know Dion dabbled in acting. Dion was originally supposed to be on the plane that crashed and took the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson) on February 3, 1959. There was a coin toss between him and Valens for the last seat, and Dion won, but he couldn't afford the $36 cost of the flight, so he let Valens have his place.

Trivia Answer- Abraham, Martin & John- Dion Like the mellow folksy sound of Jim Croce. Another good one by Croce is "You Don't Mess Around with Jim."
