Glasgow burns - and vaping is supposed to help stop smoking!

Glasgow, the working class capital of Scotland ( Edinburgh is the English capital city of Scotland) has pretty much burnt down over the weekend. Well not all of it but the only good bit. Its 'oldy worlde' bit was ravished by fire after a vape store caught fire and spread all over. The images on the newspapersof the devastation are a suitable metaphor for the state of the United Kingdom today, our high streets filled with those vape stores, Turkish barber and Kurdish mini marts that are clearly only there to launder money for organised crime gangs. My hometown of Northampton has 13 barbers and ten mini marts in a 200 yard stretch of the main drag into the town. For some reason the local councils do very little to close them down. The Glasgow vape store was not legal, no listing in the official business and state ledgers. The guys pitched up, set up the store , sold stuff and so no health & safety adhered to. A local asylum tried to tackle the fire by using a fire extinguisher but its not wise to spray lithium batteries on a busy highstreet with anything as it duly exploded a bit more, a small plume of black smoke entering the highstreet sideways, like that of Oliver Hardy falling down the chimney again. No doubt the store owners will be illegals and done a runner. A miracle saved Glasgow Central stations impressive glass roof but a whole line of stores wiped out. People are pretty fed up of this high street illegal store and money laundering scandal by foreign nationals here (nearly always Kurds) and hopefully this fire will serve as a catalyst to accelerate the removal of these guys across the UK. Coupled with the pitch invasion and violence at the Big Firm derby at Ibrox between the cities two biggest football teams it's been a bad week for the city.

That’s awful. I’ve only been to Glasgow to see the university and some river to the west of town on a tour. One would think the city government would make it more difficult for anyone to set up shops of any kind by vetting them, applying for permits, etc.

@thedevilinme I only remember Saks Fifth Avenue in Miami and a lot of Cuban restaurants, which I love.

How devastating. Sad to lose the 'olde world' as you put it. Sorry to hear it's been such a bad week for that area. It makes me mad that it was all due to an illegal enterprise. How awful.

I used to enjoy smoking when having cocktails but fro a long time now I neither smoke nor drink hard liquor and I would never try vaping,
