From beating the Spanish Armada to the Royal Navy Costa Brava fleet.

So post World War Two the Royal Navy was 14,000 plus vessels strong, an Island nation ready to run the Empire but repel invaders. Today it's not so good, just 63 vessels to secure the Kingdom although we do still have 40 Admirals on the payroll on £123, 234 per year. It's clearly hard to make Admirals redundant. What do they do all day? We have two aircraft carriers and two nuclear subs so not bad but that 63 'ships' includes boats the size of a large family car (with a machine gun). We have seven frigates and seven minesweepers .We even have a hovercraft! HMS Victory , a 200-year-old clipper, is also included to bump the numbers. It all got rather cringey this month when we had to send a Royal Navy vessel and two choppers to Cyprus to pretend to be defending the British base there, and the citizens on the island. It's embarrassing as we needed it last week and it's only just left port in the UK. It won't be there until next week. It appears the British Navy isn't what it used to be. Just 55 British ships battled and battered the mighty Spanish Armada of 135 strong in 1588. Now we would struggle to stop Luxembourg invading.

Very sad, I remember when you sent ships to "defend the Falkland Islands". Other times, other leaders.

@Ineeddentures - Well, shrinking a ship happens, bombing a school full of children is another matter!

And we sank an Argentinian hospital ship illegally killing lots of injured Argentinian soldiers Just the same as we are complaining about Israel and America sinking an Iranian ship illegally

I’m going to give you an understatement - that’s scary, depressing, and quite sad.

@thedevilinme I doubt he’d use a nuclear weapon, because then it would give Russia, China, and North Korea the go-ahead, too.

@DianneN This is Trump. If he feels Iran are winning by economic squeeze and humiliating him then...
