The Kindness of a Stranger

I was just in Kroger supermarket alone and was trying to get some cans of protein shakes off of a high shelf and couldn't reach them.
This random man walks up and offers to help. He's my height so I didn't see how he was going to be able to help me. But he jumped and would reach a can and hand it to me then jump and reach a can and hand me another one. 10 cans.
When he started to walk away, he asked, "Do you remember me?" And I did! He used to be an assistant manager at the restaurant we go to every Thursday to eat lunch and play cards for almost 7 years.
I thanked him profusely and told him it was good to see him. He left the restaurant management job to become a public school teacher.
It was exceedingly kind of him to help me.

Glad he helped, but he wasn't a stranger.

As Blance said, I have always relied on the kindness of strangers, but in your case, he was not really a stranger. Next time you know what you have to do: sing the song Jump and jump for those cans.

So often when I am grocery shopping, what I want is not within my reach. I have often just asked someone tall nearby to help me reach something, or someone will offer before I can ask. I wish they wouldn't put things up so high. It was good that you remembered each other.
