This is a hard question to answer. I want to say people read more books 50 years ago but then there's more access to e-Books and e-Readers for people to get books in this age than there were then. But times were simpler then and reading was a form of entertainment before the Internet and Streaming TV. What do you think? Do you think people read more or fewer books now than 50 years ago?

I think they read more books now than 50 years ago. We are distracted more than other generations, but 50 years ago I think we were more occupied with things that are much easier to handle now, freeing up time. Also, with books being more affordable via ebooks people aren’t as limited by money. Lastly, I’ve seen my niece’s schoolwork, and the books her curriculum says to read IS longer than the books I was required to read. All in all, I believe those are reasons why people read more now than 50 years ago.

@AmbiePam You make good sense. I tend to agree with you.

I think people read less now because there are so many other forms of entertainment and sources of information compared to before. Books have to compete with the internet, and while some people read ebooks, I feel like more people gravitate toward everything the internet offers rather than sitting down to read a book.

I don't think so. There are still a lot of people especially in the younger generation who read a lot of books. My son still do and doesn't like watching tv. However, they don't read the physical book. They do it online or using a gadget like kindle, their tablet or phone.

This is a hard one. There is still a lot of books still being written and printed so someone must be buying them. I still like to hold a book if I'm reading.
