Jurassic Park! Brilliant concept for a movie, great cast and special-effects and fantastic soundtrack. Probably the last great cinema experience action sci-fi movie until Marvel poured a truck load of CGI over cinema and ruined the big screen experience forever.
That was reason enough for the sequel and no one would deny Hollywood that payday. But that was a decent payday and so another sequel came and went and then another and then another...
Ok, this dead dinosaur has been flogged to death guys. Enough! They did this with Transformers. First film was a surprise hit for all ages and then a string of commercial sequels followed. Saem again with Star Wars.
Like when the dinosaur escapes the compound, the neon warning signs were flashing and the klaxons sounding not to watch the latest Jurassic Park movie. The clue is even in the title: Jurassic Park: Rebirth . They want to start it all over again with a new set of heros and dinosaurs, and so they did. With one of my favorite directors, Garth Evans, directing It was enough to pull me in just enough to press play. Maybe he could find something new to put in it.
It's one of those franchises where you feel obliged to watch the latest sequel out of respect for its legacy. It's on your movie package, you have nothing else to do so why not? You know exactly what you are going to get but you still do it. You know the cast is going to get munched in order of the credits, the boom boom sound of heavy footprints approaching, scurrilous villains who want to steal the dinosaurs and their DNA and make money etc. It's exactly the same.
The plot is as basic as a Brontosaurus poop. It lands with a thump, stinks a bit and stiffens up to a pancake by the end. Scarlett Johansson is onboard to help reboot the franchise but all but invisible.
The basic set up is the remaining dinosaurs now live naturally near the equatorial regions where the weather allows them to keep existing and humans tend to give them a wide berth. Some scientist types venture down there for whatever reason.
This time a team is heading down there to extract DNA from three new Dinosaurs to help treat heart disease in humans. It soon goes wrong when they pick up a young family cruising the region in their yacht that have drifted of course. They end up on the island all together when beached by a big water dinosaur and you know the rest.
Its ok. It's not worth recommending as nothing new here and the cast add very little. Special effects, like in all special effect movies are expected to be good so we dont notice them. That thrill has long since passed.
Dialogue is chunky and the cast is suitably ethnic to hit all demographics and audiences around the world. Music is just not the same impact, or the action sequences. It feels like it's aimed at 8-years-olds in rural India. But their plastic toy dinosaurs have come to life and we have moved on.

When they make another movie off of a old movie I do not think it is ever the same as the first movie. The remakes are just not as good.
