Self-Publishing or Traditional Publishing

When you write a book, you can share it in two ways. Traditional publishing means a company helps you. They print your book, sell it, and pay you money. But it is hard to get a publisher. It takes a long time. Self-publishing means you do it yourself. You put your book online and keep more money. It is faster and easier. But you must do all the work alone. Both ways are good. Traditional publishing gives you more help and trust. Self-publishing gives you more freedom and speed. Choose the way that is best for you! If you were to write a book, which would you prefer? I would venture into both, but first, I will explore self-publishing. To tell the truth, I learn a lot from self-publishing. Not to mention the intricacy of the process and the patience and consistency required. With self-publishing, you discover so many things on your own and grow.

I guess I will just publish it online... and promote it using my own facebook account. But I guess I have to make sure to protect the copyright.

If a company helps you does it not mean someone other than yourself thinks it is worth publishing? So I would go with a publisher

If you want peer review and to add to your credentials for salary grade, then publishing it with a well-known, at least recognized, publisher is a must. For instance, in the Philippines, if you are aiming for a state university, then have your work published through a recognized publisher.

I have been self-publishing all my books. I don’t want to deal with trying to find a publisher who’ll want to publish my books. I just want to publish them. And you keep things as you want them. There’s no one to tell you you have to change this or that or they won’t publish the book. The one downside to self-publishing is all the book promotion falls on the author.

I totally agree with you. What books do you usually publish? May I know which platform you use for publishing?

@Neil43 I have one novel and one poetic tale. The others are either poetry books, lyric books, or combination of both. A few have poetry, lyrics, and prose. I use Lulu to publish my books.
