Chatham County Sheriffs Office deputy Herbie Stubbs was with his relatives on Easter weekend at Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina when he saw two swimmers who were struggling against strong currents in the ocean. Officer Stubbs with the assistance of his son Chandler and a family friend named Marcus went to the area where the two swimmers were in trouble when the trio and other bystanders formed a human chain to rescue the couple. Mrs. Stubbs called 911 to report the incident to the operator, The rescue of the couple was successful as the couple were taken to the shore with minor injuries. I am sure that Deputy Stubbs will receive an award from his superiors for saving the life of the swimmers at the beach in the near future. Link is msn.com/en-us/news/us/...

So glad they were okay and only with minor injuries. We have had horrendous riptides every day since 12/05.

They were smart to have extra people help to form the human chain. It's all too easy for would-be rescuers to also get in trouble when dealing with ocean currents.
