Movies I Like: Last Holiday

Last Holiday was a 2006 movie that I like starring Queen Latifah. It was a comedy about a lady named Georgia who works at a department store but has dreams of being a professional chef. She has an accident at work and bumps her head, and the doctor who gives her a CT scan tells her she has a rare brain condition and has only three weeks to live. Obviously this is devastating news, but Georgia decides to live her last days to the fullest, quits her job, and liquidates her life savings to go on a luxury vacation to Europe so she can stay at a fine hotel and eat wonderful food prepared by a famous chef (Chef Didier, played by Gerard Depardieu), who becomes her mentor in culinary work. Georgia is such a kind, sweet soul with such a positive attitude that most people respond to her immediately, although there are some who are suspicious of her warmth (after all, if there's no conflict, it's not much of a movie). There's a "bad guy", the department store owner played by Timothy Hutton who tries to undermine Georgia at every turn, and Georgia's love interest, Sean, played by LL Cool J, who was her coworker at the store. I read that this movie wasn't very successful at the box office, which is a shame, because it's really very good. You really fall in love with Queen Latifah, who is such a lovely, charismatic woman and just shines as Georgia. So maybe you can rent this movie and show it a little love. It will love you back, I promise!

That movie comes on a lot during Christmas time, but I have yet to actually see it. I’ll check it out come December; I know it will be shown a lot. That’s a great review!

It sounds like a good movie and I am itching to see how it ends. We finally finished Dawson’s Creek last night. I loved it, my husband tolerated it, and my younger son laughed at us for watching an old teenage movie.

I'm sure I've seen this somewhere back in the dim, distant past. I would have said I hadn't but reading your review.. it all came back to mind.
