Have you ever been awarded a prize?

I believe we are all great in many ways. There are things we do in exceptional ways and in that case, they make us stand out. If such happens in an organized setting -say contest, competition or assessment, a reward is likely to be made. I was first rewarded an exercise book for emerging the best pupil in std. 3 when I was about six years old. Along the way I was given many awards; in high school for emerging the second, in campus for 1st runners up in a poetry contest and for winning 5 consecutive sets of 2:0 in an inter-course tennis sports event. Later as an adult I won a prize when my novel became 2nd in a writing contest. It saw me sign a publishing deal with a reputable publishing house here in Kenya. All those achievements are important to me. Then there is this reward that I gave myself – the one I consider most precious and irreplaceable: A soapstone carving I awarded myself. Why? I awarded myself the carving after achieving a whole year sober. It means a lot to me because quitting alcohol was one of the most difficult achievements I managed to make.

Those are amazing rewards, but how special is the one you made for yourself! That is quite an impressive piece you made, and you should definitely be proud of yourself.
