Israel celebrates 78 years of independence?

I keep wondering about this news about Israel celebrating 78 years of independence. Does that mean the Israel of the old has ceased to exist? Where do these current Israelites come from?

The State of Israel did not exist. The people of Israel lived in different countries and they were finally recognized as an Independent country on May 14, 1948.

I was going to say the exact same thing that @LadyDuck just said. These people found a safe haven after fleeing from oppression and the Nazi regime of World War II.

And it took a while before many nations recognized them. The United States were the first country to recognize Israel, followed by Iran.

They are the chosen people of the only living God up to this day. They are celebrating the establishment of their nation. Because they always disobey God, they lost their land in conquest, and was scattered etc., you can read it in the bible. But after the Holocaust, under Hitler who killed so many Jews... that's triggered other countries to support Israel establishing their nation. I hope it answered your question. God bless.
