What a beautiful Thursday! It’s supposed to be in the 80s today. Next week, when everyone will be in town for the Derby, it’ll be in the high 50s/low 60s. We might have to move the Derby to get better weather.
Speaking of moving, here’s a song that, although it’s 70 years old now, will get you moving!
#8: Get Rhythm - Johnny Cash
RAP!! Well, it is.
Johnny Cash could do it all, and that includes doing rap before rap was even on the scene!
(I have a comedian friend who said that “A Boy Named Sue” was the greatest rap song of the 60s.
)
See the screen grab photo? We had that album. I’m pretty sure I still have that album. (It was warped, so my mom wrote “bottom record” on the album jacket to stipulate that it had to be the first album on the spindle. I know, that’s a totally foreign language and concept to y’all, but that’s how we did “mix tapes” in the 60s.
)
When this was released, however, it was a mega hit…sort of. It was the B-side of the single “I Walk the Line.” So if the ballad didn’t suit you, you could always flip the 45 and enjoy a great rockabilly tune about another totally alien-to-modern-life concept: a shoeshine boy. Heck, do they even make shoes that have to be shined anymore? (Side note: we had to shine our shoes in boot camp.)
Just another one of the long lists of songs in Johnny Cash’s enduring legacy.

Glad you enjoyed it. I grew up with a lot of his albums, so he’s a favorite.

He had a couple of flops, but the good far outweighed the bad…or “not as good.”
