A fair warning: this is country. Linda? NO! Dianne? NO!!! Oh, and it’s a 180 from that Patsy Cline version that most people love, so if you’re fond of that rendition, probably not.
Gee, that’s a great way to start a discussion, isn’t it: “nobody should read this.”
No, it’s just a warning against listening to the song! From 1956, another one of my 100 favorite tunes.
#7: Sweet Dreams - Faron Young
Patsy wasn’t the first person to have a hit with this. By the time she got around to recording it, Don Gibson (who wrote it) had released it as a single twice, not to mention this rendition by Faron Young.
And yes, this remains my favorite version. You know how I love music that contradicts the lyrics. When people sing this slowly, it reinforces the pain. Young took the other route.
By the way, if you want to hear a killer slow version…wait ‘til next month.
