I finished this Novel recently.
This is "Legacy of War" by Wilbur Smith. The Novel was quite gripping.
I started it in Feb and for some weeks I was not reading it much.
When I came back to read it, I almost read close to 100 pages in a single day !
Here is more about it :
Background
Co-authored with David Churchill, this novel serves as a powerful finale to the long-standing Courtney family saga, i.e other Novels by the same author.
It is set in the immediate aftermath of World War II, a period of global transition where the world shifted from the horrors of the front lines to the complex challenges of reconstruction and decolonization.
Then there are references to the changing scene in Kenya which is British occupied.
Plot Summary
The story follows Saffron Courtney and her husband, Gerhard von Meerhoff, as they attempt to find peace in colonial Kenya.
However, their respite is short-lived. Between the rising anti-colonial tensions in Africa and a dangerous Nazi architect seeking bloody retribution from the ruins of Europe, the couple must fight to protect their family and their future.
And the Nazi person - none other than Gerhard's brother, who is vicious and cunning beyond imagination.
There are fights, chases etc and many upheavels enroute a big climax.
Critical Feedback
The scale and breadth of the novel is very vast.
Its plot could be easily made into a movie, or a short series.
Wilbur Smith’s signature ability to blend historical authenticity with visceral action remains intact.
One also gets to see a range of human emotions from friendship, public welfare, care to greed, lust and hunger for power.
