Can you keep a chicken as a pet?

There are some animals I wouldn't ever consider keeping as a pet for any reason whatsoever and chicken is a very good example of one. I've seen some people keeping roosters as pet but I can't think of anything else but meat whenever I see them . Would be ever keep a chicken as pet?

Well, it is illegal to keep a rooster as a pet within city limits here, but you can own a chicken. I have a couple of friends who own two chickens, and get a lot of good eggs.

Chickens are intelligent and can be trained to do some small tasks. If you look on YouTube, you'll see several videos of chickens trained to play a miniature piano and other things, too. They can't be trained to use a potty, though, so I wouldn't want the mess. If I had room outside, I might keep a few for eggs but that would be it. I'm allergic to anything with fur so I keep fishies instead.

I would love to keep chickens ….i guess I would think of them as kind of pets ….they wouldn’t be in the house obviously, but I would give them names and only keep them for the eggs, I could never eat them…..having said that , chicken is my favourite meat, but I couldn’t eat something I had cared for and given a name !
