Hantavirus is not a risk

The Covid virus fatality rate in the early days of the crisis was exposed neatly by the cruise ship outbreak on the Diamond Princess. There were 712 confirmed cases in the 3127 people on the quarantined boat, 97% of those people tested. Those people were not allowed off. 14 people died, mostly elderly. 0.5% death rate. That's a 1 in 200 chance of death if you caught Covid back then.
The current hantavirus outbreak is not as serious as the covid disease and not very airbourne. Of the three that died so far, two were a Dutch couple sharing the same cabin for a while, an obvious incubator. ANother guy died who was older and four others in various hospitals, some seriously ill. In that enclosed environment spread was inevitable.
This is the Andes virus version of Hanta, which has spread human-to-human before. If we eventually find out how many of the 168 people on board this cruise ship are infected then we will know its death rate. If it does become more virulent and so infect more people in general society from those rat droppings then it may become more infectious. Pathogens like this are on the increase. I'm not worried. It's a bit like Ebola in Africa. Once people understand how it spreads in an outbreak they take note.

@TheHorse I have been on 3 cruises in the past. Thank goodness they went smoothly. I have had my fill of cruising. I am glad to have done it, good memories.
