First PT Appointment Went Very Well

Hey all, I had my first physical therapy appointment for my hip on Monday. I was able to get with my favorite therapist from past years. I'm glad she's still there, because some folks I worked with have retired. She's young, though, so hopefully she will stick around. We did three exercises for my hip, and those are very easy to do at home. She recommended that I do two appointments per week, but unfortunately they are very booked up, so it was just one this week. I will have to wait for next week to start doing two. She spotted something my doctor didn't! He didn't seem to know what was wrong with me, but she said she thinks I have a tear in my labrum, which is the disk of cartilage in the hip joint. I looked up more information about this when I got home, and it fit with all my symptoms. Not sure why my doctor didn't spot this, and I'm pretty unimpressed with him. Anyway, I've been doing the exercises, and I feel better. The hop pain is still there, but I can feel that my muscles are getting stronger, and the extra support they will provide will certainly help.

Glad PT is going well. I know it hurts. I had a therapist who complained because I complimented her on how good it felt that she was massaging my foot. She said, "then I'm doing it wrong."

Oh yeah, I hate that kind of massage! Fortunately these exercises are pretty mild, and when it hurts, it's usually just momentary, like a twinge.

I’m glad you are feeling better. My hubs did physical therapy in Florida and it helped him quite a bit.

For some reason, I was having a lot of discomfort/pain this weekend and so I wasn't feeling great when I went in for PT this morning, but turns out I feel a lot better, now! It's weird, but I'm not complaining!

Thanks! So far I'm not sure there's any improvement in my pain, but I can tell my muscles are starting to get stronger.

Maybe the doctor is a newbie haven't a lot of experience yet. Thankfully, you are doing physical therapy which is great because we know for a fact that our hips disk cartilage is very important to our daily routine especially moving. If it is left unattended the consequences would be not to our liking. Keep doing those simple routine even after your physical therapy, it helps a lot.

It's like magic when you find exercises that actually seem to help. Will you go back to the doctor about the suspected tear?

Yes, I have a follow-up appointment set for June 1st. I'll see what he has to say about it. Hoping for a bit of improvement by then.
