I like Dublin airport - one of my favourite airports. What I don’t like is staying in an airport hotel - nicely appointed but characterless. That’s what we had to do last night. The meal was outrageous - my salmon filet had obviously been pre-cooked then microwaved. The cheesecake was like cardboard and the only thing that was 4 star was the price.
But it was convenient, clean and comfort.
The hotel had a “free” shuttle service to and from the airport but we all know that the cost is built into the cost of the night’s stay, as is the “complimentary” breakfast, and yes, I really am a grumpy old man.
But the airport I do like. The flight to Nantes was short and quick, just an hour and a quarter, then a taxi to the loveliest apartment in the city centre. A quiet city it is.
And dinner. Oh the dinner. A drink first in the pedestrianised Place du Bouffay (no relation to Phoebe) then on to a wow factor meal. It’s a long time since I’ve felt so utterly satisfied by a meal. The French really do know how to cook simple food very well.
Mine was duck in a violet and mustard sauce.
Have you had a deeply satisfying meal of late?

My first roast after a fortnight of soft foods was pretty good. I remember Nantes but we didn't stay in the town.
