Up on the Hill

You can’t imagine a weirder place for a miniature golf course. It’s up on the hill, behind a strip mall, in the middle of one of the countless suburb towns in northern Kentucky across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. That’s where our Putt Putt is, and that’s where we traditionally kick off the season.
Another tradition is rain. I’ve told y’all that we’re the “Indiana Precipitation Tour,” and it showed yesterday. It started raining about 8 o’clock in the morning and continued on and off until about 1 in the afternoon.
In my career I’ve played when it was sleeting before the tourney started (same course) and so hot that my doubles partner passed out from heat exhaustion on the 72nd and final hole. So a little (or even a lot) rain won’t stop these guys.
They played, I watched. It drizzled a few times during the four rounds, but not enough to stop play. And, of course, by the end of the tournament, the sun was out.
It was great to see the guys again. I didn’t get to any tournaments but the one at Louisville (and there weren’t many people there for that one) over the past couple of years. We’re like a MASH unit with all the infirmaries of middle age (I’ve given up, others are still trudging through the pain to play), but we’re still a brotherhood of weirdos who play miniature golf professionally.
The photo is the really cool new t-shirt the owner made for this year.
