Will this insect act like a mosquito?

Will this insect act like a mosquito? I was shocked to find one on my bathroom ceiling earlier this morning. Looking closely at its shape, I realized it looks exactly like a giant mosquito—about 10 times the normal size! Do you know what kind of insect this is? Until now, it’s still hanging out on my bathroom wall. I haven’t decided yet whether to swat it or just let it relax there.

I don’t like bugs so I would have killed it had it found its way into my apartment. If it’s outside, I’ll just leave it alone. I see Anna said it’s not a mosquito.

Thanks for identifying that leggy giant mosquito. It looks so much like a harmless crane fly, so I have nothing to worry about

@LadyDuck So you give crane flies a free pass! I'm just curious, how do you usually deal with insects when they wander inside? And what about regular mosquitoes—do you kill those?

@Shivram59 Wow, really? Are there lots of different types of giant mosquitoes where you're from? Where I live, they all pretty much look and act the same!

Back then, I called that a cause of dengue. I mistaken it due to it's appearance that look like a mosquito in a giant form. But somebody told me that it is harmless to humam and it's name is crane fly. What's more interesting in that insect is that... it's a mosquito eater. It really surprise me when I was told about it.

Wow, who knew this leggy giant was actually a mosquito-eater? I’d better keep him around and let him multiply—nature's very own pest control team!
