So, The Mister has 5 hard boiled eggs every week….he takes them to work with him and has one a day ….. He saves the shells and brings them home for me . I crush them and use them in the garden. They are a great source of calcium and also if you don’t crush them too fine and put them around your veggies or plants they keep away snails ….they don’t like the sharpness of them. So as I have just planted out my courgettes and am going to plant out my cauliflowers I I gave just spent a jolly hour crushing egg shells ! They will go around my courgettes and cauliflowers tomorrow and also the flowers if I have any left. I love making good use of things that normally would get thrown away ! Don’t you ?

@traceyjayne I do that. I also cut up banana skins and dig them into the soil.

Yes, I was going to say I like that you didn’t just throw them away. That’s a good idea.

Yes we always use egg shells around plants to deter snails & slugs. We also put them in the composter.

My relatives and myself like to give leftover meals to the cats outside the home to eat as well as fresh water.

Absolutely! I love finding practical uses for things that would otherwise end up in the bin. Using eggshells in the garden is a great idea, especially since they serve multiple purposes. Not only do they add calcium to the soil, but keeping snails away naturally is an added bonus.

I used to do that for the plants in the pots on the front porch and the front flowerbed. The weeds seem to enjoy the crushed eggshells, too.
