First Sun To Go Meals Box?

I know the title sounds strange, but I'll explain. Ever since well Eli was in school, we'd take him to lunch in the park in the summer. It was provided by the school district for kids to get lunch during the week since they are not getting school lunch at the time. This summer they changed it up and decided to do a weekly box of breakfast and lunches for 7 days. What all did they get? A bag of oranges and apples, guessing 7 of each. I think 6 containers of shelf stable milk. A bunch of mixed fruit cups, and applesauces. A handful of little cups of veggies (think one for each day). Some cups of cereal. Then the main lunch pieces, like a grilled cheese, ham and cheese sandwich, other sandwiches, some lunchable type items. Seems pretty healthy for the most part. What do you think of this sort of thing? Does the box thing seem any better? I heard that they did get more orders than they expected but had to stop at 750 boxes this week! Photo is mine, Eli last summer I believe. Not from one of the lunch in the park meals though.

@Ineeddentures well it used to be a daily thing. This year it's a box given out once a week but there is breakfast and lunch for him for a week.

That's a lot of free food. Sounds like a pretty good program.

It sounds easier on the people running it.

There is a summer lunch program for the kids in my town, similar to yours.

That would be easier for most people to make one trip

Perhaps it would. The kids do like eating at the park though

I think it is a good idea at least the kids are sure to be fed,

Yes that is so true. These meals help my son to at least get healthy foods.

They do the same thing here. We lived out in the county until about 2 years ago and I would have to drive several miles to pick up their breakfast and lunches. Now we live in a small suburb and I was thinking I would probably have to drive to the school here also to pick up their bags (they put all the food in a black bag) and no, I don't have to drive to the school. They have a school bus that makes stops throughout the county and one of the stops is right across the street from my house. Nice. Breakfast and lunch yesterday was 2 cartons of milk, breakfast bar, apple, carrots, fruit cup, pretzels and a lunchable type thing.
