Missing person in my area

Recently, we had a teenager go missing from my direct area, a small town down the road from us. He told his mom that he was going camping, and he's been missing for a week. His mom said that when he goes camping, he is supposed to take his phone, and that he only goes for a day and then comes home the next day. Once his mom realized he had left his phone behind, she immediately called the sheriff. He left on a bike with his backpack full of food. Some people have said they may have seen him, but there have been no confirmed sightings. He was last seen the day he went missing, not too far from where he claimed he was going camping. No one has a ton of information. The things I have learned are mostly through comments. We learned he doesn't like talking to people, he loves camping, and they aren't sure if he may have talked to people online that he was meeting up with. His mom said he has a card for money, but that he left it at home. I am unsure if he has any other money on him. I'm also unsure of his reasons for leaving. This may be a survivalist type of thing or there may be more behind it. I don't know his mental state when leaving. I do know he's been missing for a week, and no one has been able to find him. Everyone has been searching trails and areas along the river where he may camp. A lot of wooded areas have been checked, the issue is NW Ohio is full of places to hide if you don't want to be found and are good at surviving. What is more interesting is that I read he was vegan, and most survivalists aren't vegans, because it takes away from being able to fully survive off the land. There are only so many non-poisonous plants in the area that he could survive off of. I am curious if he may be on the spectrum with the way he has been described, which I haven't wanted to ask because it seems rude, but it could potentially be helpful, because it would explain if he has ARFID or just chooses to be vegan. People with ARFID would actually starve to death before eating something they don't like, whereas someone who chooses to be vegan is usually more likely to eat meat if it comes down to survival. If he absolutely refuses to eat meat, he may be more likely to come out of hiding to get provisions. People on the spectrum are also more socially awkward, and it sounds like he may be socially awkward or not like talking to people for other reasons, but it does make a difference because I've seen people mentioning seeing someone who might be him, but after describing the interaction, the family has said that isn't his personality, as someone who has worked with kids on the spectrum our spectrum kids are usually more easy to detect in a crowd. It is personal information, though, and I can understand if they don't want to put it out there. It's also possible he was never diagnosed, too. It's entirely possible he is just an antisocial teenager who doesn't like eating meat or meat products, too. There just isn't enough information. I've had to dig in the comments for information. I am not by any means blaming his family; I know they're just trying to find their child and have to be completely devastated. I know I would be. I imagine a lot of stuff just doesn't cross their mind to share, and I don't feel like it would be polite to ask some of the questions so I go through comments and see if any new information has been brought up. The unconfirmed sightings would have him going west, more towards Indiana. The last unconfirmed sighting I heard about was Defiance, Ohio, but without knowing for sure if it was him, it's not a real lead. He could literally be anywhere. He's had a full week to get somewhere. There is no Amber alert because he left by choice. He wasn't kidnapped that we know of. It's just a lot. I really hope his family finds him safe. I'll link a flier for anyone on here to see, in the off chance they see him. Especially for those of you who do a lot of hiking and things. If you do see him, please call the number. I know it's a long shot. I honestly don't want anyone to find me on here; this is a place I go where no one knows me in real life. I have met friends on here who now know my real name, etc, but I'm still mostly able to stay private. I just want to help find this kid. If you do by some miracle, see him and call it in just say you saw it on a flier (which is the truth, this is the flier). Thank you all.

It sounds like a planned disappearance However if he planned to disappear, why didn't he take his money card?

I think he planned it too. He may have left the card, but it's possible he has cash on him. I wonder if they have a way of checking the balance on his bank card? Although, unless they know if or what was in there before, if it's at zero, it could have already been at zero. Survivalists try to live off the land, but if he's vegan, then it's not like he's going to be out fishing.

I'm really hoping he is found soon, and found safe. There are just so many things I don't know about this. I'm also worried that he may be having a mental health crisis, which, if that's the case, we don't know if they'll find him alive.

@2ndchances24 I'm not really thinking negatively, but just thinking of all the possibilities. I really hope they find him alive and well, but with the weather we have been having, I do have to wonder where he is and how he is surviving. We have had some bad wind and storms, and then the heat. Part of me thinks he is trying out some survivalist thing, another part of me wonders if he met up with someone and took off with him, and then I wonder what is happening with him mentally. It's odd that he would just take off and not tell his mother where he is going.

@sissy15 Don't think the worse just yet, you have to have faith that he'll be found alive & safe, I know it's not easy but faith can do a lot if you give it a chance.

It is suspicious that he didn’t take his phone. You double check for certain things, and a means of communication is one of them. I hope it really was an accident.

I honestly think he planned this; it sounds like he doesn't want to be found. He has his bike with him, which makes me think he has to come out of the woods at times to travel, which he would probably be doing at night, unless he ditched his bike. It's a pretty recognizable bike too. A lot of things could have happened, like meeting up with someone else and possibly being kidnapped, or ditching his bike once meeting up with people and traveling with them, or he could have ditched the bike and continued to travel on foot through the woods. I would think he would be in and out of the woods, though, mostly using the woods for camping. If he still has the bike, it wouldn't be easy to keep going through the woods without some sort of bike trail. There has been a search party for the past week, and there is an FB page, which is where I got this flier to help try and find him.

That's so sad and very worrying. I hope they're able to find him.

It is, I hope they do too. With all of the technology they have now, it's insane they're struggling so much to find a 17-year-old. This kid doesn't want to be found, or he would have been by now. I don't know if he has plans to come back eventually or not. I know they're doing a news broadcast tonight so his mom can speak out and let him know it's safe to come home and that he won't be in any trouble, and that she just wants him home safe.
