Last Weekends heavy rains

I was supposed to submit post last weekend but forgot to gather my thoughts. Early in the evening after dinner, while it was pouring rain, we heard a loud thunderous noise nearby. We ignored it at first, but then, for the first time, our power flickered and eventually went out. I realized it was serious when the whole community lost electricity. I’d read that we were having supply issues and that some nearby areas were rotational brownouts to cope with the shortage. Thankfully, our place has a standby generator that kicked in right after the outage, restoring power. The downside was that it wasn’t strong enough to run the air conditioning, so we had to make do with a fan that spun slowly leaving many of us uncomfortable. I couldn’t sleep the whole night until the power finally returned about 3–4 hours later. I was just grateful it wasn’t a total blackout, which would have made the night unbearable.

Good thing it didn't last all night long. It would have an uncomfortable night not being able to sleep well.

That’s true, we rarely experience long power outages in my area. Luckily, the place we’re staying has a standby generator. It doesn’t produce enough power for everything, but it made us more comfortable compared to others had no power at all.

@rsa101 For sure. Our condo also has a backup gen set but they allow each unit to only have one socket working, plus the lights. So no air conditioner too. I rarely go there though so it's ok. We have a gen set at home which is a strong one that allows us to use all our appliance including the ac. Fortunately, we don't use it often.

@toniganzon Well our Genset was able to power almost everything but it wasn't that strong that even the fans were not working and there are times that the generator was dying since I guess there were many of us using the same power source.

Last Saturday’s rain was so intense it knocked our power lines out completely. Thankfully, everything’s back to normal now, as our power provider has already taken care of it.

I’m glad it came on after three or four hours. Sleeping in the kind of heat you have is basically intolerable.

Having blackout all night would have been so frustrating. Thank God power was restored after few hours. Electricity is very important..makes life easier for us
