When "back today' becomes "2 weeks more"

It's only Monday but I'm already so frustrated. My coworker was supposed to come back today after a 1-month schooling, which means I've been covering her tasks for the entire month on top of my own responsibilities. I thought she’d be back this week, but she just messaged in our group chat this morning that she’ll be gone for 2 more weeks. We already agreed that I’d take leave once she returns, and my 3-day leave is already filed because I have an important trip with my Lola and Titas. But with this new update, it looks like I won’t be able to push through with my leave since there won’t be any staff left in the office. I’m really hoping we don’t have any pending tasks next week so I can still be allowed to go. I’m so torn right now on whether I should continue with my leave or not. My Lola and Titas are already expecting me to come home.

i don't understand how come she didn't know all this from the start. something smells fishy and, i'm sorry. i think you still deserve your leave and that you should go. lola and titas are your grandparents or?

I get your frustrations. It seems that employee didn’t understand your situation or the need for a break after taking on her responsibilities for a month, leaving you with a heavy workload. I truly hope the office can work out a solution so you can finally take some time off as well, especially since you’ve handled the job of two people without complaint.

@Soobinah It’s great that your boss has agreed to give you a break. You really needed it, and it’s nice to see your boss recognizes that too. Now you don’t have to worry—your boss will handle distributing your workload so someone in the office can take over, or it can wait until you’re back.

I’m the type of employee who rarely takes absences. I may be late sometimes, but it’s only 5 minutes max. I also don’t file leaves often, I only use them for important matters. I patiently handled multitasking for 1 month in the office because of the tasks she left behind. And now that it’s my turn to take leave, she suddenly won’t come in because she’s on leave too. Its really frustrating.
