I support women’s cycling. The ladies put on an entertaining show. And with the women’s Tour de France starting Aug 1st, I’ve been highlighting some of the women that I enjoy watching. Today, we’ll take a short look at one of the true powerhouses in the women’s peloton, Belgian Lotte Kopecky, racing for the stacked Team SD-Worx-Protime.
A master both on the track and on the road, Kopecky’s resume on Wikipedia is about as long as my arm from fist to elbow. Lotte’s list of accomplishments is one that requires the use of “X’s.”
As in, 2 x World Road Race Champion. 4 x Belgian Road Race Champion. 7 x Belgian Time Trial Champion. 6 x World Track Champion (2 x in 3 different disciplines.) 3 x Tour of Flanders winner. 2 x Strade Bianche winner. Throw in wins at Paris-Roubaix Femmes (2024,) Milan-San Remo (2026,) and that she has won a stage in all 3 Grand Tours (Giro d’ Italia in 2020 and 2024, when she also won the Points Classification as Best Sprinter;) Tour de France Femmes Avec Zwift (2023, also Points Classification;) and La Vuelta Feminina (2026, and again, Points Classification winner,) and you’ve got a career lots of cyclists would kill to have a quarter of.
Kopecky has also won the prestigious Velo d’Or award (2024) and the UCI Women’s World Tour that same year.
And that’s just the “X” stuff.
In real life, Lotte Kopecky recently married former pro cyclist Axel Merckx. If that last name looks familiar, Axel is the son of the legendary Eddy Merckx, the greatest cyclist in history. A strong cycling family just got stronger!
Link is a short of Lotte winning Strade Bianche in 2024:

She is. Like I said, a lot of pros would give anything to have a sliver of her career.

More than likely, especially both being from cycling-mad Belgium!
