I Was There - Third World

Often, when I’m pulling an all-nighter and bored out of my skull, I’ll start searching You Tube, looking for concert footage from shows I’ve attended. Usually, it’s not hard to find something; sometimes, the quality is even pretty good.
Tonight, I found a 1:11 short of reggae legends Third World playing at Levitt Pavillion in Denver, Colorado, in October 2024. And it was a free show!
Third World formed in Kingston, Jamaica in 1973. They are known for adding elements of genres such as soul, funk, and even disco to their reggae. International hits include their cover of The O’Jays’ “Now that We’ve Found Love,” “1865 (96 Degrees in the Shade,)” and the Stevie Wonder-written/produced “Try Jah Love.” They also once featured in a classic SCTV sketch with John Candy’s character, Gil Fisher, on The Fishin’ Musician.
Levitt Pavillion is an outdoor live music venue in Denver that opened in 2017. The non-profit brings both paid and free shows in each summer, providing the Denver community lots of opportunity to watch live music (a cause near and dear to my heart.) It’s set on a grassy hill and has drawn impressive crowds each show I’ve attended.
While verifying information for this, I was saddened to learn that founding guitarist Stephen “Cat” Coore passed away in January 2026. I’m glad I got to see him, he was a great reggae guitarist. Thank you for the music, sir!
Photo is the setlist, and by me.
Link is a short of the band playing at Levitt that night. I was in the front row, on the rail, about 5-6 feet to the right of whoever filmed this, yet my head somehow never makes it into the video

They actually do them all summer. They probably have more free shows than paid shows, honestly. I think the paid shows probably help pay for the free shows, along with grant money and donation money. My neighbor went to a free show the other night, in fact!
And don't worry, there are some that I did make!

They are great live. I think just the drummer is left now. But a couple of them have been in the band for awhile now.
