What would you have done?

I was at a supermarket with my mom and her friend. There were two types of fresh corn there. One was loose, selling at 10 for $5. The other was prepackaged, selling for $6, with 4 corn inside the package. My mom’s friend grabbed the prepackaged corn. I asked him why he doesn’t want to get the loose one as it’s cheaper. His reply was that he doesn’t need ten of them. The price sign did not say must buy ten so I don’t think he had to buy ten of them to get that discounted price. If it were me, I would have inquired if we had to buy ten and, if not, I’d have gotten however many I needed instead of paying $6 for the prepackaged corn. And if we had to buy ten, I probably wouldn’t have gotten it unless I could split it with my mom. What would you have done?
