We are having an absolute heatwave in the UK at the moment.
We really don’t know how best to deal with it .
Even some schools have closed.
I went out today and ….not my doing …..was out at the hottest time.
What did I see….a Mom and Dad with Sun hats on pushing a baby in a pushchair …..no hood up or brolly shading the baby at all ….being pushed right into the way of the sun just wearing a nappy covered by pants …..nothing on the top of the body or the head …..
I also saw two women standing talking with a child of about 8 standing next to them …..again no hat ….they were standing in the blazing sun for around 15 minutes…..
Were the parents really thinking about their children ?

My mom used to slap some sunscreen on us, and then send us out to play, but she knew our tolerance of the heat would have us coming back in for a periodic water break and some time in the air conditioning. Now, if I were in a stroller, my mom would have had the hood m up, a hat on my head, and probably wouldn’t have us out long at all.
In Oklahoma, oppressive heat is the norm. So you kind of learn to cope. I used to walk my dog while holding a parasol.

I don't think they were thinking at all! Even on ordinary days I see parents not paying attention to their children - for example on a very cold day, a toddler in a pushchair with no gloves or anything, and obviously the person walking might be warm enough but a small child just sitting there must be frozen. Or when a crying baby obviously has the sun shining right into their eyes and they don't seem to see that.

It’s so sad that some parents just are not aware of the basics ….

I guess the hot weather is so unusual they don't think about the dangers. Kids should certainly have hats. In Australian schools, kids aren't allowed out in the playground without their hats. I don't know if this is enforced in the winter though. Probably not.
