The Deaths in Europe Due to the Heat Are Stacking Up

United States

More than 200 people have died in heat-related deaths in Spain. There are at least 5 deaths in Italy Strangely enough 48 people in France have drowned while trying to cool down from the heat. Temperatures in Europe have gone over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. We’re used to that in many places in the USA and most of us here have air conditioning in our homes. I couldn’t live without it. I read that only 20% of homes in Europe have air conditioning because they don’t usually need it.

@looeyville We need air con for about half an hour every three years. Fortunately we always miss the heatwaves that bedevil southern England. The toewn my brother lives in in France hit 40 today. So glad I’m not there right now. I hope all the heat dissipates by the time I go to Italy - 9 weeks today.

@LooeyVille Trieste - James Joyce lived there, and Rilke. A unique place, at least it was in ‘75.

Climate change isn't going to go away. Europe had a bad heat wave last year I believe it was. I think there is going to be a surge in people buying air conditioners there.

There’s no such thing as “climate change” or “global warming”. That is a public relations stunt by scientists. The earth has always undergone cyclical changes in weather for thousands of years. There are years in our history that were warmer than now.

@LooeyVille I disagree, and so do the majority of climate scientists. Whatever you believe..the heat waves are going to continue and worsen.

I heard about those drowning deaths in France. That’s such an odd statistic, isn’t it.

Never could understand how people in Europe cannot cope with the heat. When I lived in Latvia a hot summer meant a summer to me because summers always seemed too cool. Well me and hubby opened out front door we had a locked garden gate and all the windows in the house to catche every breeze and then sat and cooled off in out littel pool in the garden it worked out fine, Don't know how people cannot cope fi I had to I would also sit in a cool bathtup for awhile,

It was surprising that 48 people drowned.
