Bike Leans - Copper Mountain

That’s a photo of my mountain bike, Agent Orange, leaning on the Copper Mountain sign at Copper, Colorado. I took this photo July 2nd 2022. The veterans/first responders cycling group I ride with, Project Hero, used to ride, annually, from Frisco to Vail and back. We don’t do it anymore - we stick closer to Denver now, but you never know, we very well could end up there again. This was my first time doing this ride, and I was riding my heavy mountain bike. So, I made it from Frisco to Copper Mountain, where I took this photo, where I hooked up with a couple of Project Hero brothers and sisters, where we toodled around Copper Mountain for a few minutes, and where we hauled ass back down to Frisco. (I did the ride into Vail the next year, but no bike leans were photographed.) The ride from Frisco to Copper takes place on the Ten Mile Canyon National Recreation Trail (Ten Mile Recpath, as it’s known.) My ride that day ended up being a total of 14.20 miles (by comparison, that next year’s Vail ride was 45 miles) with 690 feet of climbing (3,956 feet climbed on the Vail ride.) Frisco is a popular destination in the Colorado mountains, due to its proximity to four major Summit County ski mountains/towns/resorts (Copper Mountain, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge.) It was founded in 1873 and offers up a myriad of both winter and summer sports for the outdoor recreation community. Copper Mountain (Fun Fact: the ski scenes in the movie Dumb and Dumber were filmed at Copper) opened in 1972 and has 2,465 skiable acres. It is also the starting location for the Copper Triangle, an annual cycling event that benefits the Davis Phinney Foundation. As you can see, 2022 was not really a hard ride, but on a mountain bike, I was hurting that day. But I got a cool photo out of it!
