In arranged marriages looking for fairer skin is a bad choice

Generally in Asia majority of marriages are arranged. Now good skin colour or fair skin colour gets privilege over the dark skinned colours. There is also a myth that by mating with fair skinned person, the offspring will be fairer. Now this is a bad choice. A person should be rated based on work, qualities, humanity, rather than external looks.

I really do not agree with arranged marriages although l know it still goes on largely in the Asian countrues. To think that people are niaive enough to believe this is based on ignorance it is sad that people believe this. Our country have imposed laws to prevent young girls being taken back to some countries where arranged marriages still take place.

thanks Gary in India both love marriages and arranged marriages are prevalent. But arranged ones also require choice of groom and bride having other yardstick like education, job, etc, not fair skin

In a way, this is another form of racism. People should not be judged on colour.

Arranged marriages seem so unfair, especially for women.

I agree - favoritism or discrimination based on skin color is stupid. Why do people prize fair skin, anyway? It's just a color.

I have not heard of arranged marriages in the Philippines. You are right. It is a bad choice. I agree with what a person should be rated, not with being fair skin.

Do people still do arranged marriages? That was in the past. I can't believe we still have arranged marriages in the 21st century
