Some much needed rain/my day

We went to the town south of us to get groceries and dinner tonight. We normally can't go grocery shopping on Fridays because my husband works nights, but he had tonight off for the 4th of July holiday. On our way there, there was a total downpour. There was one before we left, too, but it had stopped, and we ended up driving into another one. The rain and wind were crazy, but boy did it help with the heat. The temperature dropped a good ten or 20 degrees from earlier in the day. It felt wonderful. We got into town, and we all decided we were hungry. We went to Raising Cain's, and it was my son's first time there. Once again, no hunger beats the hunger of a teenage boy. My son got the biggest box they had and downed it in record time, and then ate what we couldn't. I got a much smaller box than the boys, so I was mostly able to eat it all. I thought maybe the traffic would be bad due to it being the holiday weekend, because it was terrible in our town, which is why we decided to head south. Our town was also having its fireworks display tonight, so we decided we didn't want to deal with the crowds and didn't go. When we got into town, it was nowhere near as bad as our town, but that might also be due to all of the rain they were still getting hammered with. We did a nice, steady pace to get indoors. The stores were the least busy I had ever seen them. We were able to get down the aisles and not have to deal with many people. We were in and out quicker than we had ever been in and out of stores, which is great, because I was struggling with focus tonight. My brain could not just stick to the list and was floating everywhere, but despite the extra effort of trying to focus, we were still in and out fairly quickly. By the time we got groceries and headed home, the rain had finally let up. I don't know that it has rained since. All I know is we clearly needed it. Our town still had its fireworks. I can only imagine people sitting out in their chairs getting soaked. I think it did clear up in time for the fireworks, but so many people get there super early to find parking, so if they didn't get in their car quickly enough and had everything set up, they may have been in for a rude awakening. It gets super packed, so it's not uncommon for people to get there hours early and set everything up. I have no idea what we are doing for the actual 4th of July if anything, we may just have a day at home. I guess time will tell. I hope everyone here in the US is having a great start to their 4th of July weekend. Happy 250th! What did you do today or I guess it was yesterday now?

Oh, I forgot it’s the 4th of July, a major celebration in the US. My sister sent me videos and pictures of the fireworks over the Hudson River. It rained here a little while ago, but it was brief, so now it’s very humid where I am.

@sissy15 I guess people there are responsible enough with fireworks and are content to simply watch from a distance.

@rsa101 Not everyone is; there are many people losing body parts (especially fingers and hands) this weekend.

The rain helped it cool off here, but it's still on the humid side. Fireworks can be very pretty when they're used properly, and people know what they're doing.

I can’t believe your son is a teenager. It seems like just yesterday you were talking about him being so much younger. About an hour ago, someone outside went on a crazy illegal firework light up and sent off what sounded like 45 straight minutes of pop pop pop fireworks. So stupid. There was a mother last week who was setting some off illegally with her twenty year old son, and she blew three fingers off. They had her on the news warning people, but of course these knot heads do what they want.

You're telling me. When I first joined Mylot, I hadn't even met my husband yet, let alone have a whole child, who has now become a teenager, he'll be 16 in a few months. I hate it when people are idiots. Where I live, they are allowed to legally set them off for the 4th of July weekend, which is fine; that doesn't bother me, my issue is when they continue to illegally do it for weeks and weeks after. We bought some more mild ones to set off, things that won't do a ton of damage. We try to be mindful of the neighbors, and we also only do it at the legally allotted times. We do a lot of smoking and ground ones that don't go up in the air. We don't want anyone getting hurt, but my husband loves them and has fun with them. I personally find them to be a waste of money, but if it makes him happy and doesn't hurt anyone, I let him have it. When we lived in an apartment complex where literally all of our apartments were connected (they were townhouses), we had someone setting off a few of the bigger ones. We were so annoyed because it was so dangerous with where we were located, and they weren't just little ones. Later that night we had strong winds, and they had a tree fall on their car, and I was like, Well, if that isn't karma lol.

It's so nice when the rain breaks the heat! Sounds like your shopping experience was nice.
