It's Quiet. Too Quiet. "The City is Sleeping."

I live at the intersection of two major traffic arteries here in Denver, Colorado, which means a lot of hustle and bustle and traffic. I like to leave my door open and listen to the city, day or night. I get traffic sounds of all sorts - revving street racer wannabes, sirens, honking, screeching brakes and tires, just general traffic. I also live about a quarter-mile or so from the Interstate, so I get that traffic noise as well. In addition to all of that, I get both Light Rail horns as well as distant (about 2 miles) freight train horns. That’s not to mention the sounds of the people, even late at night. College kids (I live across the street from the University of Denver) yelling in the middle of the night, celebrating what one can only assume was a successful night of drinking at the Crimson and Gold. When DU Hockey is playing, the neighborhood is electric. Tonight, it seems, Denver is sleeping. The DU kids have all gone home for the summer. I haven’t heard a siren all night. Nor have I heard any traffic. Nobody is even shooting off fireworks like the last 3 nights. All I hear are the air conditioners of my neighbors. No trains, and I particularly love hearing the freight trains. It’s like the city of Denver took the night off. Collectively. So quiet. Which is nice, but I do like to hear the city chaos as well.
