Dental visit cost more than I anticipated

Went to get my teeth cleaned today, which costs $150. Since it seems like my husband took me off his insurance, and I have to pay out of pocket with no reimbursement after, I didn’t want to do anything else. $150 is already a high amount to spend. When I spoke to the receptionist on the phone prior to the appointment I told her I only want to do the cleaning. No exam. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The hygienist had the dentist come in to look at my teeth toward the end of the cleaning. This meant more money to spend. Luckily, the total with the exam was $195. And that’s in part due to the in-office write-off, according to the receipt I got, because the exam costs $125. The hygienist was also about to do the x-rays when I sat down. I told her I just want to do cleaning today. She didn’t proceed to do them thankfully. Otherwise the total would have been somewhere in the $200s, if not $300s.

That's too pricey. Same it here. I remember when I was still working, I enjoyed a free prophylaxis every year. That's one of the medical benefits I'm entitled from my employer.

My teeth get black stains so I have to clean them every four months. Not something I want to do.

I was was given the same crap treatment you were when I told them I just wanted a cleaning. The dentist said they had to double check to cover themselves legally (so I can’t say they missed anything). I think that’s a bunch of bull. They just want an excuse to charge more.

It's a lot of money but the silver lining is you got a great service. Lucky the hygienist didn't do an x ray
