I think the fox pair may have wiped out the resident squirrel population

I mentioned the fox who decided to take a snooze on the the chaise lounge a couple of times. It turns out this fox has a partner and they both have taken residence near the house. I was actually wondering if they had a den under the deck? However, now they seem to have disappeared. However, I have not seen any of the resident squirrels for maybe 10 days. There is a small one in the front that shows up, but that is about it. You know something attracted the foxes here..and those may have been it. I was thinking they were hiding from the heat..but cooler now..they haven't come out..They are either dead or smell eau de fox.

Poor squirrels. May be also that they are hiding because of the heat.

@snowy22315 - I suppose it's not so different from the other years.

@LadyDuck If they wanted to be out they would be out. Heatwave is gone for the time being.

There will be a hawk or two at my dad’s house, and for a few days you won’t see any squirrels. That’s usually when you see the baby bunnies disappear too.

Maybe they will pop up but I am guessing at least a few of them were casualties. A few were quite large..good eating for a fox.

My squirrels here are still out and active in this extreme heat and humidity so I think the foxes ate your squirrels.

Either that or they are sitting in their nests terrified. The foxes may have moved into greener pastures as well
