Not Another Music Series - "I'm Not Perfect (But I'm Perfect For You)"

What, did you not want another music series? You might have even heard one or two of these. What’s it about? You’re smart, you’ll see through it. These are in no particular order, but I figured I’d start with a high energy dance bang: “I’m Not Perfect (But I’m Perfect For You)” by Grace Jones. Jamaican-born singer/songwriter/model/actress Grace Jones has personified elegance-with-an-edge during her decades-plus career (she started out in the 1970’s.) She is best-known for her hits “Slave to the Rhythm,” “Pull up to the Bumper,” and “Nightclubbing,” as well as a cover of Tom Petty’s “Breakdown.” She has appeared in 22 films and one videogame (“Hell: A Cyberpunk Thriller.”) In 1986 she released a groovy little Niles Rodgers (Chic)-produced album, Inside Story, her 8th. Inside Story led off with its single: “I’m Not Perfect (But I’m Perfect For You,)” aimed directly at the dance floor. According to Wikipedia, Mick Jagger helped Jones come up with the main idea for the tune, which she developed into a dance hit. The single reached #4 on Billboard Magazine’s U.S. Dance Music/Club Play chart, as well as #24 on the European Hot 100 Singles chart (“I’m Not Perfect” also charted in multiple countries, including Belgium, Finland, Italy, and Spain - there were other countries, but those were Top 20 peaks for her.) Inside Story is a wonderful album (just give “Victor Should Have Been a Jazz Musician” a listen sometime,) and “I’m Not Perfect (But I’m Perfect For You)” was a, well, perfect lead off for the record.
