Now Playing on the Groove Machine - No Secrets

It looks like I’m up all night, needing a break from You Tube. I figured, rather than sit in silence, why not listen to some records? (At a low volume, naturally. I’m in my 7th year in my place. I don’t need a noise violation at this point!) This one is actually a perfect late-at-night record for The Groove Machine: No Secrets by Carly Simon. My parents had this on 8-Track, so I’ve been listening to this album for a long, long time (this was released in 1972. I was eight.) I daresay I listened to it more than they did while growing up. Something about the cover moved me, I guess. Most known for the #1 hit, “You’re So Vain” (background vocals by Mick Jagger,) No Secrets is chock-full of great tunes. The title track (“We Have No Secrets,”) the #17 Billboard Hot 100 followup to “You’re So Vain” - “The Right Thing to Do,” “Night Owl” - all superb. Simon wrote or co-wrote all songs (except “Night Owl,” written by then-husband James Taylor who performs the song as a duet with Simon.) As far as the album itself, No Secrets topped the charts in the U.S., Australia, and Canada, and hit the Top 10 in four other countries. Can I gush anymore about a record that some people I know might be surprised to learn that I own? Probably, but I won’t. Link is to the studio version of album lead-off “The Right Thing to Do:”
