Spent the weekend at my brother's farm

We just came back from a weekend's stay at my brother's farm in Pampanga province. We got to stay in a nice, newly built house within the property, eat fresh farm produce, and swim at the pool. I didn't plan to swim but my brother had the pool filled up just for us, so I felt compelled to dip. Water was cool and refreshing. I'm glad I jumped in.
We've been spending weekends here and there since June. It's been fun and interesting, but I'm getting tired already. I just want to be home and go about my daily routine. Long road trips wear me off.
School will open first week of August. I've yet to clean parts of the house, organize some clothes, and prepare menus for packed lunches. One would think that I've gotten so used to this after all these years. But it's never the same each time. I'm never the same.

The stay at your brother's farm sounds relaxing and exactly what you and your family needed. I'm glad he filled the pool for your family. I know it's been way too hot there this summer.
Vacations always wore me out, too, and I was always ready to go home just so I could relax. (Vacations were always more for Pretty to enjoy than for me, anyway. I was always content just to get away for a few hours and then return home but Pretty and any of her friends we were hosting that summer NEEDED time away to forget things at home and just enjoy being kids without worrying about school or problems at home.)
Some things are just easier to do at home, anyway. I always just asked Pretty and her friends what they wanted in thsir packed lunches and, as long as what they asked for was fairly good for them, I bought it or made it and had the foods bought or made for each week so I didn't have to worry about it too much so I could return to work. *shrug* Sandwiches were easy enough or cooked foods that were nutritious, some type of chips and some fruit. I always bought juices in packs that could be frozen and used to keep the foods cold and would thaw by the time lunch time arrived.
I, of course, always made supper when I got home from work so they needed a snack of some kind because kids are always starving when they got home from school. Do you have a snack of some type ready for your kids when they get home and then make supper, too, or are you the parent that tells kids they can't eat because it will spoil their appetite and then let them have a snack right before they get ready for bed?

I've asked the girls to help me marinate meats in advance and to prep sandwiches that we can leave in the fridge. It's been awfully hard for me to prepare all their packed lunches at one go.
My eldest likes to graze. She eats several small meals throughout the day (and sometimes, at night). The younger daughter prefers to eat two huge meals a day. She rarely eats snack except if it's something fancy that she'd love to try.
When they were little, I highly discouraged late-night snacks. It's because I would have them brush their teeth before 8pm bedtime, and I really didn't want them to acquire that "midnight snack" habit because diabetes runs in my family. The ones who had it were all late-night eaters of breads, cookies and biscuits. I don't know if I make sense, but I hope I do.
For some years, I would have them eat snacks in the car as soon as I'd picked them up from school in mid-afternoon. In the years that I have seen them bicker often in the backseat; I have come to realize that hunger makes them grumpy (or HANGRY, if you will). So, I made sure there's something to eat when they get in the car. I needed the quiet so I could drive in peace.

@almostoveryou Yes, you make perfect sense to me. The difference between us is that I didn't mind if they got up during the night to get something to eat. They'd be brushing their teeth again the next morning, anyway. I didn't want hungry kids, especially since I also get up in the night hungry, so I'd snack then... (Usually, I kept apples, pears and peaches when those were in season, for snacks. Cookies and sweets were always kept in my bedroom closet so I could control what they snacked on.) I allowed candy and sweets in the afternoon so they didn't have such a large jump in their blood glucose levels so didn't worry as much about the kids becoming diabetic. (I am diabetic but keep my blood glucose down in the "normal" or "pre-diabetic" range. My doctor says that is fine.)
Pretty and her friends always preferred making a sandwich as soon as they got home from school and ate while they worked on their homework. If the homework wasn't done by the time I got home, they sat at the kitchen table and did it while I worked on cooking supper. That way I knew they were doing homework instead of playing. (For several years, one or two of Pretty's friends lived with us while their parents were out doing other things and went to school from my house and came back to my house in the afternoon after school.)
I never got quiet in the car, no matter where or when we were driving somewhere. Pretty and her friends always had things to talk to me about... I listened, answered questions and enjoyed talking with them.

@DaddyEvil It must have been fun for you and Pretty to have one or two kids stay in your house for a while. I wish our school system would require homework again. I think the homework thingie was scrapped in 2017 - apparently, to let kids spend more time with their families. Sadly, they end up spending more time with their gadgets.
Back when I had to drive almost every day, I struggled so much because of poor eyesight and lack of judgment. There were always jeepneys, motorcycles and tricycles to contend with. It's just so confusing; I had to keep quiet and concentrate all the time.

@almostoveryou I work as a Lead Research Analyst, so my job mainly involves economic research, policy analysis, and helping with long-term planning. It keeps me busy, but I enjoy it.

My weekend was not good. I got really bad news.
Our school starts back in August too, and it’s hard to believe that’s happening.
Hopefully, you can get back in the swing of things at your own home. I’m sure your grateful to get away, but everyone needs a little routine now and again.

I'm sorry about the bad news. I got one, too, just yesterday. So, I'm feeling very sad lately.
Yes, I'm thankful for travel opportunities. I just need to slow down for maybe a week or two before school opens.

It sounds like you had a nice weekend. I understand about the long road trips but the end is worth the drive.
School is never the same, no matter how many years you've been doing it. Routines always change, what kids want is always changing.
My weekend was ok I guess. We celebrated my mom's birthday, struggled through my dad's and cut grass. Pretty normal lol.

I know what you mean about the ever-changing routines. I'm a creature of habit, so it takes a while for me to get used to changes.
