A common trend in shark movies

For awhile now i have been watching some survival movies, where people get trapped or stranded at sea, so they not only have to try and survive , they also have to survive against sharks i have watched various ones like deep blue sea part one to three, great white, the requin, and so on, but there is something i noticed.
Why do they always kill off the male lead in most of them?
I know they are trying to build some sort of emotional debt, but killing the main lead just doesn't make sense. What's wrong with both couple surviving?
Do you watch survival movies?

I never noticed that but I rarely watch something scary. I get nightmares from scary movies or scary books and can wake up the neighbors screaming. The neighbors are happy when I don't wake them up in the middle of the night... I'm not sure why... Maybe they don't need to be up that early?
