Heads It Is

Today, I found a quarter laying on an empty lot. It isn’t that much money, but it’s all the dough I’ve got. I lost my job two years ago, then my home and all my pensions, and all that I’ve amassed since then is this blasted hypertension. I lived in my Mercedes until they took that car, and now, with holes in my Doc Martens, I cannot travel far. I shower at the shelter every Wednesday before lunch and use baby wipes in restrooms when time is in a crunch. Last winter, I found a warm spot behind the bushes by St. Peter’s, and dear statue in this fountain, I wish for a new home with the warmest of all heaters. Heads it is, or so it seems. I hope this wish is not a dream. I need some help for my bloodstream with heart disease prevention— Anything that I can do to ease this hypertension. © 2026

Thank you. We flip coins into the air. When they fall, they either land with the person on the front facing up (heads) or the flip side up (tails).
