Jamaica did not gain commercial internet connectivity until 1995; five years after developed countries. However we had BBS...Bulletin Board Services which was a kind of local 'internet'. And on BBS we learned everything we needed to know about hacking, and protection. Before you call the police, we aligned with government to explain as much as we could to people who knew absolutely nothing. One of the things we learned was not to use 'common' browsers. Creating a hack for a browser 90% of the public uses is sensible. Creating a hack for a browser 1% uses is a waste of time. So use an unknown browser. In fact use two different unknown browsers so you can have a high level of protection. Create email accounts under fake names using sites no one heard of. Join social networks under that name using that email. Yes, have your business email and real name, but don't use it to join sites. In this way you create a barrier between you and hackers.
