What Can You Tell Me About Riding a Ferry?

The only ferry I’ve ever ridden is the Staten Island Ferry in New York City
I just booked a solo trip for October that I’ll detail in a separate post. I’ll be staying a week in Malta. My research shows that I can take a ferry ride over to Sicily. I’d like to take a day trip to Sicily.
But I’ve never ridden a ferry. I need @xfiacre or @traceyjane or others to help me.
The ferry ride is about 1 hr 45 minutes each way. The cost is roughly 45 Euro each way. Is that a reasonable price? There seem to be different offerings for classes of seats. It looks fancy with lounges. Is a standard ticket for outdoor seating? Should I pay more for a better seat?
Are ferries safe? Do you feel a lot of movement on a ferry? Seasick?
This ferry is pretty big and transports both humans and vehicles.
Is this considered a long ferry ride?
Any tips you can give me for riding a ferry?

Don't be late. They don't like stragglers.

@looeyville Ferries are very safe and stable - sea sickness and movement not really an issue unless there’s rough weather. Boats are generally modern and comfortable and well organised. Paying extra for Club seat not really worth it - very short trip and standard class is fine and that includes inside Seating. Personally I prefer to be out on deck. Should be a pleasant trip. Thirty minute walk from ferry terminal to town centre but there are taxis. I look forward to hearing about it.

In October there are limited crossings so it’s either 5 am or 7:15 from Malta and either 7:25 pm or 10:00 pm from Sicily. That’s a long day trip but perhaps like you I’ll find a nice cafe to pass some time. There are flight options cheaper but I’ve done enough flying in my life. The ferry seems like an adventure

@LooeyVille Oh always go by sea. Airports are to be avoided at all costs and there’ll be cafes aplenty to sit in at Pozzallo.

Most of the ferry rides I've taken are to cross rivers. That only takes about 15-25 minutes depending on if the ferry is full or if the water is rough. I was very small the last time we took the ferry out to Ship Island and don't remember too much about it. I've never gotten sea sick on a ferry. It's slow moving, so you should be fine. Tuck some Dramamine in your purse for "just in case" or take it before getting on the ferry to be safe.

I've been seasick on the ferry across the Irish Sea..I laid down on the deck and the sea was wild and rough.
I didn't get sick on the hovercraft however from England to France.

I've only ridden the Cape May-Lewes ferry (across Delaware Bay), but it's super convenient that you can drive your car onto it and take it with you. This ferry wasn't luxurious - it just had wooden benches inside the covered area and a deck that surrounded it. We stood on the deck and threw french fries to the seagulls that would fly alongside and catch the fries in their mouths.

I have been on a lot of ferries in my life...not sure which was the favorite. I loved the Nantucket ferry, it's about 2hours long--if you want to take your car, it has to go on the ferry. It wasn't unusual to see large pods of dolphins in the summertime. Very scenic. I also loved the ferry from Texas mainland to Galveston Island--we lived in Galveston for a time when I was young, and Dad made a ferry ride a lot of fun. Yes, you feel some movement. I don't remember feeling sick on the ferry.
Take a scarf and a sweater or jacket. Winds off the water can make you feel really chilled at times, even in the summer.
