This afternoon Ireland’s fields and roof tops are being revived by soft refreshing rain after so many weeks of heat and drought. The flowers in everyone’s garden are perking up nicely and birds are bathing in the puddles collecting under my cherry tree, as rain water drips down through the leaves. Down at the harbour earlier I stood a while to watch a ferry heave away from the dock into the mizzle heading for Scotland. Fog horns and Church bells took turns to call attention to their own priorities, neither excluding the other. Even earlier, around 3 a.m., wind tossed its way around the back garden, tearing the heads off some of my hot pink geraniums, and even worse it sent the clothes horse flying across the lawn to crash into the garage wall and left me unable to get back to sleep. Now things have calmed down and hopefully tonight no wind will be passed in my garden.
