Tour de France Update - Quinn Simmons

The 2026 edition of the Tour de France is over. Despite the dominance of winner Tadej Pogacar, this Tour was entertaining by my book. A couple weeks ago I wrote about a few U.S. riders, so I figured I would update how they did. One of the riders that consistently made this particular Tour so entertaining was our guy, Captain America, U.S. Road Race Champion Quinn Simmons. Simmons certainly did his part to get his Stars and Stripes Champions jersey on television during the last three weeks. He served a dual role this Tour - Simmons spent much of the day in the breakaway during each stage, working for his Lidl-Trek teammate Mads Pedersen as Pedersen pursued the Green Points Classification (or Sprinters) jersey (he won.) After Mads had cleaned up intermediate sprint points along the course, Simmons would fall back to whatever group his two GC (General Classification, or Yellow Jersey) contenders, Mattias Skjelmose and Juan Ayuso (finished 6th and 7th overall, respectively) were in, and then work for them. Quinn finished 18th overall, his highest Tour finish yet, and second-highest U.S. rider placing. He finished 1:35:28 behind Pogacar. His highest finish was 2nd place on Stage 4. He also had a heck of a ride on Stage 15, when he won that stage’s Most Combative Rider award (it really should be called “Most Aggressive.” They aren’t out there swinging clubs at each other’s heads during the race. ) A great result for a guy who was literally working for 3 different riders all day, everyday.
