”Ahem.” I think that was the remark I had the other day when I used Rodney Crowell’s “Stars on the Water.” Since I don’t repeat artists, I wouldn’t have been able to use this song if I had used the “ahem” version. No problem, Jimmy. You did write this one. The presentation of life by the ocean as being “more than contented to be living and dying in 3/4 time” is partially true. In Hawaii, they called it “Hawaii standard time.” You get there when you get there. (Didn’t work for the Navy, but for everyone else…) But in reality, anywhere you are, you can reject the notion of life as the Indy 500 time trials. I heard a sermon over the weekend that reference the modern life as an “addiction to constant stimulation.” No kidding! Think about it: you can’t watch anything on TV where you’re not bombarded with “what’s next.” Before we’ve even had our first preseason football game everyone on ESPN is going, “Who’s going to win the Super Bowl??” (Hint: the team that scores more points. You’re welcome. ) You’ve seen the jokes on Facebook about Walmart taking down the 4th of July stuff and putting up Halloween things. Buffett had it absolutely right in this song. Downshift.
