Dinner date with my 15 y.o.

Yesterday, my second daughter and I went for a quick grocery run and a take-your-time dinner date. I owed her this Mommy time. She's been dealing with some personal issues, and she's been reaching out to me. I have an idea of what's gnawing at her lately, but I thought I'd just let her be and open up when she feels like it. We ordered homestyle fried chicken and beef tapas at Nono's. She enjoyed her fried chicken while I struggled to finish the garlic rice and two sunny side ups that came with the beef tapa meal. I should've followed my initial cravings and ordered dessert instead. I should've ordered peach waffles!! Anyway, my 15 y.o. talked and talked over dinner. She's a fast talker. I'm often amazed at the speed of her train of thought. I tried my best to be sensible and to not react quickly to her ideas and opinions. She just needed to exhale. I understand that some things and events tend to overwhelm her introverted nature. After Nono's, we got popsicles from 7-11 and walked home in a leisurely way. She seemed better when we got back at around 6 p.m. I then joined the husband in watching the President's 5th State of the Nation Address. Halfway through, I got a little bored and started washing the dishes. By 9 p.m. I was lying in bed, surfing through Pinterest when I felt a gentle kiss on my forehead. "Thank you, Mama, for taking me out to dinner," she said.

That is so lovely. I so miss my mother! She knew how to parent her introverted daughter just like you do. That must have meant so much to you both.
